Its common knowledge among Austin gourmets that few purveyors of Mexican cuisine can compare to Fonda San Miguel and its extensive selection of interior treats. Everything on the menu is built to impress - take a look at the Lomito Adobado, an entree of sliced pork tenderloin marinated in chile ancho, sprinkled with appropriate spices and served with avocado sauce, apples and a poblano salad. Lighter main courses (of which there are few) may benefit from the accompaniment of one of dozens of well-executed sides like the Sopa de Elote, Mexican corn soup with cheese and roasted poblano chiles. Even standard items of the enchilada variety is designed with the sort of obsessive intricacy that would overshadow the Sistine Chapel (if it was equipped with a dining room). The margaritas arent too shabby either. Enjoy it all in an atmosphere evoking that of a luxury hotel hidden away in the mountains of Mexico. -- Barrett Brown

I have lived all over Mexico
By southpawtx on 03/28/2007
I have lived all over Mexico, you name it, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Saltillo, Cabo San Lucas, Juarez, Acapulco, Cancun, Tulum, Zacatecas, Pueblo, just to name a few. And I must say that the food at this restaurant was very good. But what I have to say is there is no particular " interior real mexican food ". The food varies as much in Mexico as it does here in our country. You could just as easily find a place here in Austin that is identical almost to many restaurants throughout Mexico. And vice versa. So please stop saying this is THE only REAL INTEROR mexican food in town.

Interior Mexican Food
By conbhi on 01/03/2007
My hubby says Fonda San Miquel makes the BEST mole sauce in the world, so we go about 3 or 4 times a year. I enjoy eating here but I truly prefer Tex-Mex. So, if like me, you are going with someone who loves interior Mexican food, just have a margarita and call it a diet! The food is pricey, so don't order something that's $25. and expect it to taste like your usual Mexican restaurants.

True to Mexico

This is the only true Mexican restaurant here in Austin if you know what mexican food is about. I have been a patron for over 25 years....the best!
