Sink into the sumptuous leather banquettes, enjoy the attentive but subtle white-tablecloth service and bask in the warm glow of mahogany paneling. Luxury lives in every crevice of the Capital Grille. The lunch crowd is mostly buttoned-down dealmakers devouring rib-eye steak sandwiches with caramelized onions. Health-conscious diners will gravitate toward the grilled tuna or the lobster-and-crab burger. Dinner crowds are more relaxed in attitude and glitzier in dress. The menu is a la carte, so side items cost extra. The portions are huge. The pan-fried calamari with hot cherry peppers is a popular beginning and a nice prelude to the steaks that begin with a 10-ounce filet and end with a whopping 24-ounce porterhouse. This is the perfect stop for a chilled martini and a romantic meal either before or after a show at the nearby performing arts center. Those dining before the curtain rises should bear in mind that dinner here is an event -- give it time. -- Lesa Kastanas

first time fooled me
By themonk131 on 05/02/2007
I loved it the first time I dined there. Maybe it was because it was my anniversary. I have to say though the last two times I have been, I was quite disappointed. My entrees were not good. My husbands steak was over cooked both times. I feel it is over priced fro the quality. I do have to admit, though,it does has a charming atmosphere.

My favorite
By vanmoore on 04/29/2007
Having eaten at all of the high end steak houses, the Capital Grille is my consistent favorite. While it is expensive, I believe it is the best value of all of the choices in Charlotte.

Quiet Dinner
By dboyr15 on 03/21/2006
Booked a reservation on line and requested a quiet area for a special dinner on a Wednesday evening with our out of town guests. Even though the food was great the atmosphere stunk! Between being sandwiched between a party of 10 and a party of 8, being bumped by pushy waiters, and the noise level to which we couldn't even hold a conversation, everything was great! Even though the manager stopped by "there was nothing he could do". Couldn't move us, nothing! No "free" desert, nothing! Just a sorry! I too am sorry because this was our last visit. " There are to many other fine eateries in Charlotte to put of with this kind of service.
