Since 1998, Cary McDowell and Jim Fiala have been blending their talents, their backgrounds and the cooking traditions of France and Italy. The result is The Crossing, an upscale eatery in Clayton that is known for imaginative meals that change with the seasons. Menu highlights might include gazpacho and beet salad with sherry vinegar, pine nuts and goat cheese. One woman fell in love with the salad so much that she eventually fell in love with the chef and they wed. Instead of a "star-crossed" tale, it was a "star-crossings" love story with a happy ending! While the chefs don't guarantee matrimony, they do guarantee fresh ingredients that are in season like lamb, oyster mushrooms, asparagus, rabbit, summer squash, portobello mushrooms, mussels and beef tenderloin. The atmosphere is blissfully quieter than many of Clayton's restaurants. It adds to the overall comfortable ambience at The Crossing. -- HW

Oh no!

We didn't enjoy our dining experience. First, the wine they served my husband was corked. And the food was below average. The demi gloss tasted packaged! Very expensive and not worth the price. The interior was beat up, needs to be polished!

The atmosphere is wonderfully different, the service is warm and friendly without being annoyingly attentive, and the food is outstanding. The Crossing is one of my absolute favorite resteraunts anywhere !
